Tool Angle

The geometric Angle of the tool

The most direct and effective way to reduce machining costs is to effectively use different parts of the turning tool. Therefore, in order to select the right tool, in addition to choosing the right tool material, also must understand the characteristics of cutting geometry. However, due to the wide range of cutting geometries involved, the main focus is now on the application of front and back angles to commonly used cutting angles and their effects on cutting.

Anterior Angle:In general, the front Angle has a great effect on cutting force, chip removal, tool durability.

 The influence of the anterior Angle:

1) The positive front Angle is large and the cutting edge is sharp;

2) When the front Angle increases by 1 degree, the cutting power decreases by 1%;

3) If the positive front Angle is too large, the blade strength will decrease; If the negative front Angle is too large, the cutting force will increase.

The large negative front Angle is used

1) Cutting hard materials;

2) The cutting edge strength should be large to adapt to intermittent cutting and machining conditions including black skin surface layer.

Taisho front Angle is used

1) Cutting soft materials;

2) free-cutting materials;

3) When the rigidity of the processed material and the machine tool is different.

Benefits of using front Angle cutting

1) Because the front Angle can reduce the resistance encountered in cutting, it can improve the cutting efficiency;

2) Can reduce the temperature and vibration generated during cutting, improve the cutting accuracy;

3) Reduce tool loss and prolong tool life;

4) When selecting the right tool material and cutting Angle, the use of front Angle can reduce tool wear and enhance the reliability of the blade.

The front Angle is too big for the outside

1) Because the increase of the front Angle will reduce the Angle of cutting tool into the workpiece and the cutting efficiency, so when cutting the workpiece with higher hardness, if the front Angle is too large, the tool is easy to wear, even the situation of breaking the tool;

2) When the material of the tool is weak, the reliability of the cutting edge is difficult to maintain.

Rear Angle

The back Angle reduces the friction between the tool and the workpiece, so that the tool has the function of free cutting into the workpiece.

The effect of the back Angle

1) The rear Angle is large and the positive wear of the rear blade is small

2) The rear Angle is large and the strength of the tool tip is decreased.

The small rear corner is used

1) Cutting hardness materials;

2) When the cutting intensity is high.

The large rear corner is used for

1) Cutting soft materials

2) Cutting materials that are easy to work and harden.

Benefits of back corner cutting

1) Large back Angle cutting can reduce back tool face wear, so in the case of front Angle loss does not increase sharply, the use of large back Angle and small back Angle can prolong the life of the tool;

2) In general, it is easier to dissolve when cutting malleable and softer materials. Dissolving will increase the back Angle and workpiece contact surface, increase cutting resistance, reduce cutting accuracy. Therefore, if cutting this kind of material with a large back Angle cutting can avoid the occurrence of this situation.

Disadvantages of back corner cutting

1) When cutting materials with low heat transfer, such as titanium alloy and stainless steel, the use of large back Angle cutting will make the front tool face easy to wear, and even the situation of tool damage. Therefore, the large rear Angle is not suitable for cutting this type of material;

2) Although the use of a large rear Angle can reduce the wear of the rear blade face, it will accelerate the decay of the blade. Therefore, the cutting depth will be reduced, affecting the cutting accuracy. To this end, technicians need to adjust the Angle of the cutting tool to maintain the accuracy of cutting;

3) When cutting materials with high hardness, if the large back Angle is too large, the resistance encountered during cutting will cause the front Angle to be damaged or damaged due to the strong compression force.
